Race to the Finish!

posted Jan 4, 2012 12:08 PM by Christopher Chan-Nui

The Pack 406 Pinewood Derby will taking place on the 14th of January at Fellowship Hall (where the Pack meetings are held).  But your cars need to be checked in the evening before!

There isn't much time left to get your hunks of wood into prime racing condition, so you might consider attending one of the two Derby Days in order to get your block cut to size.  Before you come, mark the non-racecar pieces you'd like removed from your block.  A drawing on one side of the block is usually sufficient. Keep it simple enough that the nice people will the scroll saws can't accidentally break your very fragile piece of wood.  The dates and places are:

Thursday 6pm at Fellowship Hall
Sunday 5pm at 502 S 6th St.

The Capitol Area Council is continually organizing new opportunities for training for leaders, parents, scouts, and anyone interested in learning more about Scouting.  On January 21, 2012, the University of Scouting will again be hosted at St Edwards University.  At the University of Scouting, parents and leaders can attend an extensive number of workshops covering everything possible about Scouting and scouting type activities (ex: flag handling, dutch oven cooking, boy behavior, adventure camping, etc).  If you are interested in attending, please check out the Capitol Area Council website.  Also please feel free to contact Greg Pryer (Training Coordinator) for more information about other upcoming training opportunities!

To NASA and Beyond…

posted Oct 13, 2011 7:32 AM by Webmaster Pack406   [ updated Dec 16, 2011 1:25 PM by Christopher Chan-Nui ]

It's time to start the countdown to the NASA/Moody Gardens Outing!

As with all Pack 406 events, everybody must have turned in their Medical Form (parts A & B).  Every adult must have turned in their Youth Protection Training certificate.

This trip consists of several pieces.  Bears, Webelos, and Adults/Chaperones will have a fun filled Friday night and be able to sleep at NASA ($55/person).  For the NASA sleepover ONLY Bears, Webelos and their Adults/Chaperones are permitted.   Other pack and family members can join them Saturday morning to tour Space Center Houston for the day ($10/person).

Saturday evening, the pack will be heading over to Moody Gardens where we will get to tour and then sleep in the Rainforest Pyramid ($50/person).

The overnight programs and the pack will provide meals except for dinner on Saturday (Moody Gardens provides a pizza snack at 9:30 that evening).

For the NASA overnight please read the Briefing and the Agenda, there is more information available from their website.  There's also a map with directions for when you're near the Houston area.  Or Google Maps.

For Moody Gardens here is the Agenda.

Please review the Briefing and Agendas of interest as they contain program information and details about what you can and cannot bring with you.  Sleeping bag mats are ok, but no air mattresses are allowed at NASA, flashlights are encouraged at Mood Gardens, etc.

See you there!

Update:  Removed pricing and deadlines for spots now that the cutoff dates have passed.
